Belarus, Russia to step up cooperation in space, microelectronics, software development


Belarusian and Russian scientists intend to develop cooperation in space, microelectronics and software development, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov told reporters before a joint meeting of the Presidiums of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian Academy of Sciences, BelTA has learned.

"More than 50 scientific programs of the Union State have already been completed. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus has taken part in about 30 programs, in space as well. The Belarusian space system was created thanks to this program. We have designed a Belarusian supercomputer which we are proud of. There is already a whole series. We are actively cooperating in nuclear energy. Much has been done in the field of materials science, newest materials for mechanical engineering and instrumentation. Microelectronics, agriculture, pharmacy… We pay closest attention to all these areas," Vladimir Gusakov said.

According to him, a number of new programs are in the pipeline, including in space. “We need to create a new satellite and even a constellation of satellites. Today we will agree on a software program for the manufacturing sector. Until now, we have relied on foreign software products, and now we need our own, Belarusian-Russian one. We are also set to give consideration to programs on microelectronics, genomic, nature-like technologies," Vladimir Gusakov went on to say.

A large delegation of the Russian Academy of Sciences and well-known scientists of Russia headed by President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Academician Gennady Krasnikov arrived in Minsk to participate in the meeting. This is his first visit as the new head of the Russian Academy of Sciences since the elections in September 2022. The event is also attended by State Secretary of the Union State Dmitry Mezentsev and President of the Kurchatov Institute Mikhail Kovalchuk.

The participants of the joint meeting of the Presidiums of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will consider a number of important issues. Among them are the performance of the academies of sciences in 2021-2022, the status of the programs of the Union State with the participation of organizations of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and promising draft of the programs, the strategy of scientific and technological development of the Union State.

The scientific elite of the two countries will discuss research and development in the field of microelectronics in the Russian Federation and Belarus, the research program of the Belarus branch of the Kurchatov Institute, joint Belarusian-Russian projects within the framework of the programs of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Science Foundation.

Particular attention will be paid to the activities of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus to preserve the historical memory of the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

Academicians and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will be awarded diplomas of a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences during a ceremony on the sideline of the meeting of the presidiums.
