Belarus' BRSM Youth Union to hold over 500 events to mark Victory Day

More than 500 events will be held within the framework of the nationwide patriotic project Flowers of Great Victory across the country on 1-9 May.

The events will be timed to the 76th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, BelTA learned from Dmitry Voronyuk, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the BRSM Youth Union and member of the Council of the Republic.

“It is important to preserve the link between generations, pass the memory on to the youth, and thwart attempts to distort the historical truth about the role and heroism of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War. These are the goals of the BRSM project Flowers of Great Victory,” Dmitry Voronyuk said.

The BRSM Youth Union intends to organize more than 500 patriotic events timed to the 76th anniversary of the Great Victory. They include nationwide internet challenges, the projects and campaigns “Letter to Hero of the Great Victory, “Belarus Remembers. Flowers of Great Victory”, “Belarus Remembers. No One Is Forgotten, Nothing Is Forgotten”, “Belarus Remembers. Dear Faces of Victory”, “My Film about the War”, and “Songs of the Great Victory”. Plans are in place to launch the new patriotic contest “We Remember” for young performers and authors. Belarusian regions will host motor rallies, bicycle races, art contests, open dialogues, the open-air concert “Belarus Remembers. Flowers of Great Victory”, and events for war veterans, Dmitry Voronyuk added.

The BRSM volunteers will also take part in research to identify the names and discover the graves of unknown war heroes and commemorate them.

The BRSM's nationwide patriotic project “Flowers of Great Victory” was launched in Belarus within the framework of the Year of the Youth. The project annually brings together tens of thousands of Belarusians.
