Alexander Lukashenko in Vitebsk oblast on working visit
MINSK, 10 July (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko is in the Vitebsk oblast on a working visit. The head of state is expected to visit the Luzhesno boarding school for talented and gifted children of the Vitebsk oblast. In the evening just like in previous years the head of state will take part in opening the XVIII international festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk, the press service of the head of state told BelTA. The Luzhesno boarding school for talented and gifted children is listed by the presidential programme Belarus Children, which runs in 2006-2010. As part of the programme realization a cultural and recreational centre has been built in the school. It includes an assembly hall with 300 seats, a gym and two exercise rooms, a swimming pool. The school offers quality education to children who live in rural areas. 40% of the students come from low-income families while 24% of the students are orphans. The school is a versatile educational establishment. At present there are 275 students there. A system of tests is used to admit students. Over the 15 years of its existence the school has educated 1,047 winners of regional academic excellence competitions, 340 winners of oblast ones, 195 winners of national ones and 13 winners of international ones. Besides, 156 winners of national academic excellence competitions have been awarded prizes of the Belarus President special fund for social support for gifted students. The school closely cooperates with many Belarusian universities. Out of 798 graduates 787 have entered universities, 11 — vocational schools. All the pedagogues are university graduates.БЕЛТА
