Belovezhskaya Pushcha tourist potential presented at World Travel Market Exhibition in London
A joint Belarusian-Polish presentation of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha tourist potential for English mass media took place at the World Travel Market Exhibition in London on November 10-13, BelTA learnt from the National Tourism Agency. The Belarusian Tourism Agency has been presenting its national stand at the World Travel Market Exhibition for the seventh time, the visits of the Belarusian tourist industry to London has become regular.

Belarus Investment Forum opens in London
Belarus Investment Forum opened in the Church House Conference Centre of London on November 18. The work of the forum is led by Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky. More than 70 investment projects are presented at the forum. They include the construction of a plant to produce buses at the Minsk Automobile Plant, the setting up of a facility to manufacture flat products at the Belarusian Steel Works, the construction of cascades of hydroelectric stations on the Zapadnaya Dvina and Dnepr Rivers, the creation of the Belarusian seaport and many other projects.

Belarusian Trade Ministry to prevent shortage of imported goods
The Belarusian Trade Ministry will not allow a shortage of imported goods, First Deputy Trade Minister Mikhail Sventitsky told reporters at the international wholesale fair Kultbytkhoztovary on November 17. The fair opened in Minsk the same day. “We will strictly control the consumer market situation in order to prevent the slightest disruptions in supplies of goods to individuals,” said Mikhail Sventitsky.

Alexander Lukashenko: Belarus should preserve development pace
In the global economic crisis Belarus should survive and preserve the development pace, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told a government session dedicated to discussing the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures on November 13. “We should export products. Fairy-tales about consumers not having money and how it is impossible to sell products because of that are not needed. At present there are enough consumers on foreign markets able to buy our products,” underscored the head of state.

Belarus President presents state awards to parliamentarians of third convocation
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has awarded the deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the third convocation state awards for their fruitful state and public activity and a significant contribution to the development of legal and parliamentary system. The relevant decree was signed by Alexander Lukashenko on November 10, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

Olga Khizhenkova to represent Belarus at Miss World 2008 in South Africa
Winner of the national pageant Olga Khizhenkova will represent Belarus at the 58th Miss World Final that will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 13, 2008, BelTA learnt from director of the National School of Beauty Olga Serezhnikova. On November 15, the Belarusian contestant will leave for Johannesburg. According to Olga Serezhnikova, the Miss World competition is the most difficult pageant from the psychological point of view.

Belarus’ GDP up 10.7% in January- October
In January-October 2008, Belarus’ GDP increased by 10.7% in comparable prices over the same period last year, BelTA was told in the National Statistics Committee. In accordance with the social and economic development forecast of Belarus, GDP is projected to increase by 8-9% in 2008. Over the nine months 2008, the industrial output was up 12.8% (the annual target – 8-9%), the production of consumer goods increased by 12.

Belarus’ foreign trade up 53.9% in January-September
In January-September, Belarus’ foreign trade in goods and services swelled by 53.9% in comparison with the same period of last year as against the annual forecast of 14.5-15.5%, the National Statistics Committee of Belarus told BelTA. Over the nine months of 2008, Belarus’ export went up by 53.9% (annual forecast – 16-17%), import grew 54% (12.5-13.5%). In January-September 2008, Belarus posted a deficit in foreign trade at the amount of $2474.

Belarus, Turkey sign intergovernmental customs cooperation agreement
An agreement between the government of Belarus and the government of the Republic of Turkey on cooperation and mutual administrative assistance in customs affairs was signed in Minsk on November 11. The document was signed by Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Alexander Shpilevsky and Emin Zararsiz, Undersecretary of Turkish Customs. The documents regulates the interaction of customs agencies of the two countries in making inquiries and providing the information necessary to detect, prevent and investigate customs offences including original documents and confidential information.

Major prospects in cooperation between Belarus, Russian corporation Rostekhnologii
Belarus sees major prospects in cooperation with Russian state corporation Rostekhnologii, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he met with Rostekhnologii Director General Sergei Chemezov on November 10. “Your corporation represents a great interest as it deals with the things similar to those roughly speaking 85% of our country’s economy is busy with. Cooperation with Russia in these areas is very advantageous for us.
